Utah police officers and bystanders quickly leaped into action to save a girl trapped in a submerged van earlier this month.
Recently released body camera footage captured the June 3 at the Settlement Canyon Reservoir in Tooele, KUTV-TV reports. Police responded to calls of a vehicle that had crashed into the water, and witnesses could hear screaming of a trapped 12-year-old girl.
When officers who were nearby reached the scene, they heard the screaming and quickly took off their gear before wading into the freezing water. Once they located the submerged vehicle, officers couldn't get doors open and were unsuccessful breaking windows with a hammer.
Finally, an officer went back to land to retrieve his handgun and shot out a window. The officers then used a tow strap to pull the girl to land.
The unconscious girl was not breathing, and officers began performing CPR. She was rushed to hospital, and she's expected to recover.
